GANADO FIRE DISTRICT RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROPRIATION OF $2,644,380.00 FROM THE NAVAJO NATION SHISASIN FUNDS TO COMBAT COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS

DULY PASSED ON DECEMBER 10, 2020

Ganado Fire District Requesting Appropriation of $2,644,380.00 from the Navajo Nation Shisasin Funds from the 24 th Navajo Nation Council, the Navajo Nation Office of the Speaker and the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President for the purpose of combating the Pandemic COVID-19 Coronavirus.

WHEREAS,

1. GANADO FIRE DISTRICT is seeking $2,644,380.00 from the Shisasin Funds to assistance Navajo Nation combat COVID-19 Coronavirus;

2. GANADO FIRE DISTRICT provided fire, rescue, medical, and emergency dispatching services to five chapters, which include Ganado, Steamboat, Klagetoh, Kinlichee, Cornfields and the communities of Woodsprings, Cross Canyon, Bashbito, and Toyei; but not limited to the 1,000 square miles covered through Mutual Aid agreements and our firm mission to achieve life safety for all residence.

3. GANADO FIRE DISTRICT provided emergency and essential response to the Navajo people, our customers and visiting guest since 1982.

4. GANADO FIRE DISTRICT is seeking assistance to purchase six fire apparatus and four rescue/medical transport units (a.k.a. ambulance) to combat the Pandemic COVID- 19 Coronavirus. 5. GANADO FIRE DISTRICT is seeking the support from Navajo Nation for the purpose of obtaining adequate and reliable apparatus, supporting Ganado Fire District essential emergency staff to provide emergency services to the Navajo Nation citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESLOVED THAT,

1. The Ganado Fire District Governing Board is seeking approval of $2,644,380.00 from the Navajo Nation Shihasin funds from the 24 th Navajo Nation Council, the Navajo Nation Office of the Speaker and Navajo Nation President and Vice President Office from to combat the Pandemic COVID-19 Coronavirus. 2. Ganado Fire District Governing Board further request that the 24 th Navajo Nation Council, the Navajo Nation Office of the Speaker and the Navajo Nation President and Vice President Office for the purpose of obtaining adequate and reliable apparatus for the next twenty years, to continuing to provide adequate fire, rescue, medical, and emergency dispatching services to five chapters, which include Ganado, Steamboat, Klagetoh, Kinlichee, Cornfields and the communities of Woodsprings, Cross Canyon, Beshbatoh, and Toyei; but not limited to the 1,000 square miles covered through Mutual Aid agreements for Navajo Nation citizens.

For Immediate Release Minimum Wage Increase - January 1, 2021 Phoenix, AZ, 09-17-2020

In accordance with A.R.S. § 23-363(B), the Industrial Commission of Arizona has adopted a resolution increasing the minimum wage from $12.00 to $12.15. The increase in minimum wage, which is effective January 1, 2021, was determined by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Price Index and is consistent with the increase in the cost of living. Posters, which are to be displayed in a place accessible to employees, may be found on the Industrial Commission's Labor page (links provided below). The minimum wage posters include information on exemptions, tips and gratuities, retaliation, and more.

THE FAIR WAGES AND HEALTHY FAMILIES ACT

Effective January 1, 2021, Arizona's Minimum Wage Is: $12.15 per hour

For any employee who customarily and regularly receives tips or gratuities, an employer may pay tipped employees a maximum of $3.00 per hour less than the minimum wage if the employer can establish by its records that for each week, when adding tips received to wages paid, the employee received not less than the minimum wage for all hours worked. Certain other conditions must be met. The Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act (the “Act”) does not apply to any person who is employed by a parent or a sibling; any person who is employed performing babysitting services in the employer’s home on a casual basis; any person employed by the State of Arizona or the United States government; or any person employed in a small business that grosses less than $500,000 in annual revenue, if that small business is exempt from having to pay a minimum wage under section 206(a) of title 29 of the United States Code. Employers are prohibited from discriminating against or subjecting any person to retaliation for: (1) asserting any claim or right under the Act; (2) assisting any person in doing so; or (3) informing any person of their rights under the Act. Any person or organization may file a complaint with the Industrial Commission’s Labor Department alleging that an employer has violated the Act. Certain time limits apply. A civil action may also be filed as provided in the Act. Violations of the Act may result in penalties.
