Social Media for Fire Districts Speakers: Anne-Marie Braswell, Public Information Officer, Golder Ranch Fire District / Shawn Benjamin, Community Relations Coordinator, Golder Ranch Fire District Development and use of an effective social media program. Integrating a social media program into a comprehensive community relations strategy. 4. Career Roundtable Facilitator: Scott Freitag, Fire Chief, Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority Discuss current issues for fire districts and joint powers agencies who employ a career staff. One of four training modules required of fire district elected officials and fire chiefs to meet the requirements of A.R.S. §48-803.H. This training module addresses officials’ responsibilities in financial oversight, financial management and Arizona Law governing fire district finances. 2. Legislative Update Speakers: James Candland, Lobbyist, Clarus Group / John Flynn, Executive Director, AFDA Provide an overview of what’s ahead for fire districts as the 54th Arizona Legislature – 2nd Regular Session commences and what’s on the Arizona political horizon. 3. Earned Paid Sick Time - How To Speaker: Brenda Tranchina, Human Resource Strategies After last year’s passing of Prop 206, employers are now required to provide mandatory sick time to all employees. This class will take a look at whether or not your district is in compliance, and what the potential pitfalls may be. 4. Human Trafficking Speaker: Nancy Baldwin Recognition and deterrent of human trafficking for emergency responders and what our fire districts can do to help combat this issue. One of four training modules required of fire district elected officials and fire chiefs to meet the requirements of A.R.S. §48-803.H. This training module addresses requirements of Arizona law pertaining to the governance of Arizona fire districts and officials responsibilities under the law for effective administration of a fire district. 2. Leadership/Emotional Intelligence Speaker: Brittney Williams A recent study on Careerbuilder.com indicated 76% of employers value Emotional Intelligence (EI) over IQ. We have all heard the buzz about (EI), but how do we actually understand and control our own emotions? Can we learn to understand the emotions of others and how we choose to respond and interact on a daily basis? Learn the specifics of EI vs IQ and ways to enhance EI and become a better leader in the workplace and improve relationships. Emotional Intelligence affects all aspects of our lives. How we respond to our emotions impacts our work lives, helps us manage difficult people and situations, and increases our well-being. The Effects of Mandatory Emergency Vehicle Driver Training – VFIS Speakers Wiatt Wong, President, VFIS of Arizona / Ryan Pietzsch, Director of Training, Education & Consulting, VFIS This session will discuss a study of a mandatory emergency vehicle driver training conducted by VFIS and its findings which show the impact on crash rate reduction. Attendees in this program will leave with a better understanding of the effects and limitations of making emergency vehicle driver training and ways to connect with today’s learners.
